His Majesty King Abdullah reaffirmed the centrality of the United States’ role in enhancing regional stability, noting that Jordan will remain a partner in working towards realising peace and prosperity.

King Abdullah made these remarks at meetings held on Thursday at the Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programmes Subcommittee at the House of Representatives, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.

At the meetings, His Majesty discussed regional developments, and the role of the United States, in partnership with countries in the region, in working towards stability.

The King reiterated his calls for stepping up efforts towards pushing the peace process forward and relaunching negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, on the basis of the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Majesty also stressed the importance of regional and international support for Iraq’s effort to enhance its security and stability, pointing to the trilateral cooperation mechanism among Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq as a means towards enhancing regional stability.

On the situation in Syria, the King warned of the severe consequences of the absence of unified and serious international efforts towards reaching a political solution that safeguards the territorial integrity of Syria and the unity of its people.

Addressing the historical relations between Jordan and the United States, His Majesty recalled his visits to the Congress accompanying His Majesty the late King Hussein, indicating a deeply rooted partnership between the two countries.

For their part, members of the US House of Representatives underlined Jordan’s pivotal role in the region, under the leadership of His Majesty, reaffirming the Kingdom as one of the United States’ strongest allies, regardless of political and partisan lines.

They added that all Republican and Democrat members of the Congress agree on the importance of enhancing partnership with Jordan, commending the King’s strategic vision on regional developments and stressing that Jordan has to be an integral part of any regional cooperation efforts.

They commended His Majesty as a voice of moderation and reason, noting his efforts to promote interfaith dialogue, in addition to Jordan’s role in the fight against terrorism and extremism, and in hosting refugees despite the limited resources.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Ambassador in Washington, DC, Dina Kawar attended the meeting.
