His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday reiterated a call for intensified regional and international efforts to reach a final ceasefire in the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

During a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at Al Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah underscored the importance of providing Gazans with humanitarian and relief assistance and rebuilding what the war has destroyed.

His Majesty called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards Palestinians, especially in light of the destruction to the Gaza Strip’s infrastructure and vital services.

The King also highlighted Jordan’s continued efforts in offering medical and relief aid necessary for Palestinians under the difficult humanitarian circumstances and the massive destruction the coastal enclave has witnessed.

His Majesty also pointed out Jordan’s keenness to sustain coordination and consultation with Abbas and all other relevant parties to mitigate the suffering of the Palestinian people in facing recurrent attacks that come in violation of all international norms and human rights.

The King also called for expanding international endeavours to resume negotiations that deal with all final status issues, in a way that meets the Palestinian people’s legitimate aspirations in ending the occupation and establishing the independent state on Palestinian national soil based on the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

His Majesty warned against the repercussions of the unilateral Israeli procedures and policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially those targeting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

For his part, Abbas briefed the King on the latest developments in the truce negotiations, which are hosted by Egypt, expressing his appreciation for the Kingdom’s efforts to bring an end to the Israeli attacks.

His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi, the King’s personal envoy and religious and cultural affairs adviser, Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, His Majesty’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury, General Intelligence Department Director General Faisal Shobaki, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat and Palestinian Ambassador to Amman Attallah Khairi attended the meeting.
