His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday stressed the deep strategic partnership between Jordan and the US and his commitment to fostering ties at all levels to best serve the interests of the two countries.

At a meeting with US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the King highlighted the latest developments in the Syrian crisis and its repercussions on neighbouring countries.

His Majesty reiterated Jordan’s stance in supporting a political solution that ends the suffering of the Syrian people and maintains their security and cohesion.

The King commended the UN and its relief agencies’ support for the Kingdom, calling on the international community to extend more support to Jordan to enable it to continue hosting Syrian refugees and provide them with necessary services.

For her part, Power, voiced her appreciation of Jordan’s humanitarian role in dealing with regional crises, reaffirming the UN and its organisations’ commitment to improving the country’s capabilities to face challenges.

She also praised Jordan’s “constructive” role in dealing with international issues through its UN Security Council seat and its work to support peace efforts in the region.
