King, Russian president discuss ties, Mideast

His Majesty King Abdullah II and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks in Moscow on Wednesday that focused on cooperation between the two countries, ways to activate cooperation in various fields, and the latest developments in the Middle East, mainly the crisis in Syria.
During a bilateral meeting, followed by an extended meeting attended by top officials from both sides, both leaders stressed their keenness to institutionalize and activate cooperation in the interest of both the countries and their peoples.
His Majesty and Putin pointed to their interest in developing cooperation, mainly in the energy, water, agriculture, transport and tourism fields.
The two leaders reviewed efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israelis, based on the two-state solution and discussed the repercussions of the crisis in Syria on the security and stability of the region in the light of increasing violence and fanaticism as a result of the crisis.
In a statement to reporters ahead of the meeting, the King and Putin voiced their satisfaction over the level of Jordanian-Russian ties, friendship, cooperation and strategic partnership in various domains.
His Majesty said that the visit is aimed at boosting cooperation and coordination between Jordan and Russia in various domains, adding that it also provides an opportunity to promote bilateral cooperation in a number of sectors.
King Abdullah said Jordan appreciates its friendship and historic ties with Russia and its people, noting that both Jordan and Russia enjoy distinguished ties.
He said the talks will focus on the latest developments in the Middle East, mainly the crisis in Syria and its repercussions, noting that both sides seek to find a comprehensive and political solution to the crisis.
The Russian president on his part welcomed His Majesty and said he was looking forward to holding constructive talks on bilateral issues and mutual cooperation.
Russia and the world, he said, appreciate the King's supportive stance towards peace, security and stability in the Middle East.
