Arab summit should enhance joint action — King

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday hoped that Algeria's upcoming Arab summit would come up with resolutions to enhance the joint Arab action and meet peoples' expectations in the region.



King Abdullah made the remarks at a meeting with Algerian Justice Minister Tayeb Belaiz on the sidelines of the “Good Governance for Development in the Arab Countries” conference at the Dead Sea. Belaiz formally invited the King to attend the summit, which will be held in March.



At a separate meeting with Arab League Secretary General Amr Musa, King Abdullah urged more cooperation and coordination between Arab countries to make the summit a success, particularly at such a critical stage.



He underlined the important role the Arab League plays in defending Arab causes.



Praising Jordan's endeavors to achieve peace in the region, Musa said the Kingdom's reform plans form a model in the region.



During the meeting, the King discussed with Musa the latest regional developments.



On the sidelines of the conference, the King met also with Yemeni Prime Minister Abdul Qader Bajammal and discussed Tuesday's Sharm El Sheikh summit which His Majesty described as an important and serious step to push the peace process forward.



The King also held talks with Mauritanian First Minister Sghaier Ould Mbarek, Canadian Foreign Minister Pierre Pettigrew, British Minister of State for the Middle East Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean and Japanese Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs Keishiro Fukushima. During the meetings, His Majesty discussed the latest regional political developments, especially the situation in Iraq and efforts to push peace process forward.



Also on Sunday, His Majesty met with Hany El Banna, President of the London-based Islamic Relief, and discussed the organization's humanitarian efforts in helping the poor throughput the world.
