His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday said that the major aim of his visit to Washington is to afford support for the Palestinian position, particularly under the light of renewed violence between Palestinians and Israelis.



During an audience with a number of deputies, His Majesty pointed out that Jordanian-American relations and means to support Jordan's economy will top the agenda of talks he is going to hold next week with president George Bush in Camp David.



The king is expected next week to meet with President Bush, in a Jordanian endeavor to urge the American administration to speed up implementation of the roadmap and end violence in the Palestinian territories.



His Majesty warned of the dangers of competition and conflict among Palestinians . Such a situation will not serve the Palestinian cause, he reaffirmed.



His Majesty said that the peace plan represented by the roadmap stipulates establishment of a palestinain state in 2005. What is required is to afford international support in order to make the road map a success, because we see in it an end to the Israeli occupation and to the Palestinian people's suffering, he added.



His Majesty expressed his hope that the new Palestinian cabinet of the designated Prime Minister Abu Ala'a would be successful.



I will present the issue of supporting this government during my talks with President George Bush and other American officials, he said.



His Majesty pointed doubt that the situation in Iraq will be among the issues included in the agenda of his visit to US.



Within the framework of the deputies deliberations about the internal affairs, His Majesty reaffirmed that we are going on towards achieving a political development supported by strong parties that grant national, social and economic issues priority in their programs.



Political development requires participation and initiatives of all, government, parliament and civil society institutions, His Majesty said.



The King stressed that economic and social development of Jordan requires working together for an educated Jordanian generation capable of competition in Arab and world labor markets. He urged for combating corruption.



Earlier, His Majesty received a delegation of Washington Institution for Middle East Policies, where he talked on the various issues the Middle East is passing through, particularly the situation in Palestine and Iraq. His Majesty pointed out to his vision to solve these two issues and finding a rapid solution for them.
