His Majesty King Abdullah said on Sunday Israel should immediately abide by Security Council Resolution 1860, stop its aggression on the Gaza Strip, lift the siege imposed on the enclave and allow the entry of humanitarian and medical assistance.

At a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the King stressed the international community's responsibility to force Israel to implement the resolution.

His Majesty stressed that Jordan will continue to exert intensive efforts to bring about a ceasefire and end the humanitarian crisis caused by the aggression on Gaza.

At the meeting, King Abdullah underlined the importance of continued Arab coordination and the need for a unified position “to foil the Israeli schemes”.

He also called for launching a genuine international effort to solve the conflict by ending occupation and creating an independent Palestinian state, noting that this would be the only means to bring about stability and security in the region.

His Majesty said Jordan will continue to deploy all its capabilities and relations to support the Palestinian people and help them as they confront the aggression and its consequences and pursue their legitimate right to statehood and independence.

The King and Abbas, who outlined the outcome of his New York and Cairo visits, also discussed efforts to reach a ceasefire exerted at the Arab and international levels.
