Siniora asks King to discuss Lebanon crisis with Bush

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday told Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora that Jordan's support for Lebanon's recovery will continue.

In a telephone call with Siniora, King Abdullah stressed the importance of Lebanese national unity in facing the challenges to Lebanon's security and stability.

Siniora asked the King to raise the issue of Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty with US President George Bush when he arrives in Amman tomorrow for separate talks with King Abdullah and Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Maliki. Siniora said Israeli violations of Lebanon's air space threatened stability in the region, and urged the King to insist on full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in order to force Israel to cease its air violations and withdraw from Lebanese territory along the border with Israel.

The telephone call comes within a wider framework of the King's meetings and contacts with regional leaders a ahead of the US president's visit. King Abdullah's talks with will focus on the crises facing the Middle East, especially the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The situation in Lebanon will also be one of the top issues on the agenda for discussion.
