Salhab thanks King Abdullah for restoration initiative

His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received a cable from Sheikh Abdul Azim Salhab, president of the Awqaf Council and acting chief Islamic justice in Jerusalem, thanking the King for his recent initiative to restore Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.

Earlier this month, King Abdullah announced a JD5 million plan for interior restoration, preservation and maintenance of the mosque.

At a meeting at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, King Abdullah also announced a competition for the design of a fifth minaret at Al Aqsa Mosque that reflects the Islamic significance and sanctity of the holy site.

King Abdullah also announced the creation of a special waqf fund to support the holy places and ensure the continuity of maintenance and protection of Islamic shrines.
