A Royal Decree was issued on Tuesday approving the resignation of Zeid Rifai as Senate president and member as of 15 December. Rifai submitted his resignation on Saturday after more than five decades in the Kingdom's political life.

His Majesty King Abdullah sent a letter to Rifai on Tuesday in which he expressed appreciation for his efforts and achievements.
