Private sector strategic partner in development - King

Amman
22 November 2005

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday said the success of the 2nd Jordan Economic Forum will encourage Arab businesspeople to seize investment opportunities offered by the Kingdom.

At a Royal Court meeting with Raouf Abu Zaki, director general of the Economy and Finance Group, which will organize the forum next week, King Abdullah said holding the event in Amman for the second time proves that the private sector trusts Jordan's stable economic environment and achievements.

The private sector is a strategic partner in achieving sustainable development, the King told Abu Zaki.

Arab and foreign businesspeople as well as representatives of finance, investment, economic and tourist firms from 20 countries are to take part in the November 27-28 forum.

It will be held in coordination with the government, the Royal Court's Economic Department and the World Bank's International Finance Corporation.

Abu Zaki said the forum will show that the November 9 terrorist attacks did not affect the investors' confidence in Jordan, adding that the gathering will witness the launch of several major investment and economic projects in the Kingdom.

The forum is also expected to explore prospects of Jordan's role in trade with Iraq as well as investment opportunities in the Kingdom's sectors of IT, banking and financial markets, according to Abu Zaki.
