His Majesty King Abdullah said on Sunday that Jordan's development process is characterised by transparency, integrity, accountability and partnership among all concerned parties.

The country, he told a large meeting of local community leaders, is heading towards the realisation of its national interests, which “must remain above all interests and considerations”.

Addressing some 2,000 tribal chiefs and representatives from the Kingdom's 12 governorates, King Abdullah emphasised that Jordan has overcome all challenges and difficulties and emerged with its head held high. He said the country will continue to confront any new challenges with resolution and determination.

In his speech, which was followed by a lunch banquet in honour of the attendees, the King said: "Our goal is clear: to protect the country and work on development and modernisation, in order to achieve comprehensive development and welfare, and a decent life for every citizen. He said these objectives were the responsibility of all citizens.
