His Majesty King Abdullah emphasised on Monday the importance of an effective Russian role in peace efforts between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The King stressed the significance of Russia's role in efforts to reach a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

King Abdullah made his remarks at a meeting Monday with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Middle East Envoy Alexander Sultanov, who is visiting the Kingdom on follow-up visit to King Abdullah's trip last month to Russia, where he met Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

During the meeting with Sultanov, King Abdullah stressed Jordan's commitment to enhancing political and economic ties with Russia.

At the meeting with Sultanov, the Russian envoy voiced his country's keenness to bolster ties with Jordan, saying Russia highly values King Abdullah's role in supporting peace efforts in the Middle East.

Sultanov also briefed King Abdullah on the situation in the Caucasus and the current crisis between Russia and Georgia.

Jordan has called for dialogue to reach a solution to the crisis.
