His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday visited the northern Ramtha District, where he met with community leaders and representatives of the area.
Over a lunch banquet, the King Abdullah discussed with Ramtha community representatives their needs and issues of national concern.
During the meeting, notables from Ramtha, home to about 130,000 people, commended the King’s efforts to pursue political, economic and social development.
Stressing that Jordan will remain a model of strength and be able to overcome all challenges, they addressed the importance of national unity.
“National unity is one of Jordan’s constants, and Jordan is a model of tolerance, equity and justice,” MP Fawwaz Zu’bi said during the meeting.
Hashem Shboul, a representative of the area, echoed similar remarks, underlining that Jordan is capable of repelling “conspiracies”. “The Hashemites are the guarantee of our existence, and the future for our generations. Jordanians will not allow anyone to tamper with the country’s interests,” Shboul said.
Regarding local demands, Ramtha community leaders said the area’s water situation required prompt attention.
They also appealed to King Abdullah to allow students who were expelled from Yarmouk University to return to the university and pursue their studies. The students were expelled for their involvement in a violent inter-tribal clash on campus.
They also asked that Ramtha residents be given priority in treatment and appointments at the the nearby King Abdullah I Hospital and called for allocating seats at the Jordan University of Science and Technology for Ramtha graduates.
