King visits Prime Ministry, chairs Cabinet meeting

His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday underlined the importance of the September elections in boosting reforms and creating a parliament that can carry out its legislative and oversight role, and represents all segments of the society.

Chaired a Cabinet meeting during a visit to the Prime Ministry, His Majesty urged the government to continue to support the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) in increasing citizens’ awareness on the new elections law and the way to cast their votes.

On the economic side, His Majesty asked the government to continue to attract investments to enhance economic development and create jobs. In this regard, the King spoke about the London donors’ conference and the importance of citizens to feel its impact.

His Majesty praised the intensive efforts exerted by the government over the past two months to encourage investments and improve the business environment. , and commended the government’s support for the IEC.

The King directed the Council of Ministers to continue dialogue with the people, underlining the importance of stepping up field visits by ministers to have a first-hand look at the challenges facing Jordanians.

The King also underscored the need to follow up on the national strategy to fight extremism and protect the Jordanian youths from falling victims of such extremist ideologies.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Hani Mulki spoke about his government’s achievements over the past two months as well as the efforts being exerted to support the elections watchdog. The premier also spoke about efforts to address challenges facing the Kingdom, such as the poverty, unemployment, transportation and others.
