King visits Eastern Military Zone; commends efforts, sacrifices of Border Guards

His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), visited the Eastern Military Zone on Monday.

King Abdullah was received by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Hneiti and the zone’s commander.

His Majesty, via radio, saluted army personnel serving in the Eastern Military Zone, expressing confidence, along with all Jordanians, in the Border Guards’ role in safeguarding the nation.

The King also commended the efforts and sacrifices of Border Guards personnel, especially in countering infiltration and smuggling attempts, reaffirming his trust in the capabilities of JAF personnel to protect Jordan as they have always done, even in the most challenging circumstances.

His Majesty paid tribute to the fallen martyrs of the Eastern Military Zone who were killed in the line of duty.

The King also stressed the need to deal firmly with infiltration and smuggling attempts to protect society and young Jordanians.

His Majesty was briefed on the Eastern Military Zone’s operational and tactical duties, as well as the training programmes implemented and future development plans.

The King also listened to a briefing on the latest developments at the border front, with the Eastern Military Zone’s commander stressing the personnel’s combat preparedness and high morale.

Since the start of 2022, JAF personnel have thwarted the smuggling of 16 million narcotic pills and 17,348 sheets of hashish across the border, with 29 smugglers killed after the implementation of the newly adopted rules of engagement.
