His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday directed tourism officials to set up a comprehensive work plan, including tourism programmes to contribute to the success of the current high season.
At a meeting with representatives of private and public tourism sectors, the King stressed the need to provide tourists with all facilities.
King Abdullah said the plan should specify tasks and duties of each establishment in the sector, adding that tourism is vital for national economy and for improving Jordan's positive image worldwide.
His Majesty also directed public and private sector officials to coordinate their efforts on planning tourism programmes to attract more tourists.
The King asked them to create a tourist directory, highlighting different festivals and other activities in different governorates during tourism seasons.
King Abdullah reiterated the importance of facilitating entry, departure and customs procedures.
Her Majesty Queen Rania, who attended the meeting, said there is a need to set up programmes that attract tourists ahead of their arrival in Jordan.
