His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday urged Palestinian national reconciliation to end the state of division that harmed the Palestinians and their interests.
In talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, King Abdullah underlined Jordan's support for efforts to bring about accord among Palestinians.
King Abdullah said it is important to intensify Palestinian and Arab efforts to bring about peace that is based on ensuring Palestinian people their right to an independent state.
King Abdullah and Abbas discussed developments in Middle East peace negotiations.
They emphasised their keenness to continue coordinating stands and intensify consultation in light of the developments in the American and Israeli arenas and the outcomes of the coming elections in both countries.
His Majesty renewed his support for Abbas in his efforts to restore the rights of the Palestinians through negotiations. He reiterated that the talks should lead to an end to the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with the international legitimacy resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which offers Israel Arab recognition and normal ties in return for its withdrawal from the lands it occupied in 1967.
The Palestinian president was quoted as saying after the meeting that the two leaders discussed the position that we should take until the new US administration comes and there is a new government in Israel".
