His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday stressed during a phone call with Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi the need to de-escalate the conflict in the Gaza Strip, warning that any further escalation would worsen the already harsh humanitarian situation of the Palestinians living in the enclave.

King Abdullah and the Egyptian president urged the international community to intensify efforts to stop all forms of military escalation, stressing that continued fighting would add to regional tension in the Middle East and have an adverse effect on the region’s stability and security.

His Majesty underlined that Jordan will continue to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Gaza through intensifying contacts with the various parties concerned and through enhancing the capabilities of the Jordanian military field hospital in the Strip so that the facility will be able to respond to the various needs of the Palestinian people there.

Jordan will also continue sending humanitarian aid shipments to Gazans, he said.

The two leaders agreed to maintain coordination and consultations with various regional and international powers in a bid to stop the military escalation in Gaza.

The King also discussed the latest developments with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the phone. His Majesty warned against any deterioration of the situation in Gaza and the grave repercussions on the region’s stability and security.

During the conversation, the King stressed that a halt to military operations would give way for the diplomatic efforts by all international and regional parties seeking to reach a truce, which should be built on to enhance the regional peace push.
