His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received several British economic figures and a delegation of the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce participating in the Jordanian-British Business Forum currently held here.

During the meeting, King Abdullah underlined the deep-rooted Jordanian-British relations in various fields, stressing the importance of such forums to enhance economic and commercial partnerships between the two countries.

Discussions also covered the latest regional developments, especially the Syrian crisis and the economic challenges posed on Jordan by the influx of refugees.

His Majesty stressed the need to build on the outcomes of last year’s strategic Jordanian-British dialogue, which brought together private sector representatives from both countries to discuss economic relations and possible joint ventures.

The King underlined that Jordan’s strategic location makes it a bridge between three continents, adding that the Kingdom has succeeded in securing an attractive and stable investment climate, despite all the challenges and unrest sweeping the region.

His Majesty noted that Jordan, by virtue of its unique geopolitical location, can serve as a gateway to Arab markets and provide access to more than one billion customers worldwide, thanks to its free trade agreements with many countries.

The King called on forum participants to take advantage of the investment environment and incentives offered by the Kingdom, highlighting the importance of the private sector’s role in modernisation and development.

The British economic figures included the Lord Mayor of London Roger Gifford, Baroness Morris of Bolton, who is the trade envoy of the British prime minister, Afnan Al Shuaiby, Arab-British Chamber of Commerce’s secretary general and CEO, along with Sir Nigel Knowles, Co-CEO and managing partner of DLA Piper International LLP.

The meeting was attended by Royal Hashemite Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, His Majesty’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Hatem Halawani, Jordan’s Ambassador to the UK Mazen Hmoud and British Ambassador to Jordan Peter Millett.
