King urges accelerated work on GAM public transport plan

His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday directed Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) to speed up a comprehensive study aimed at restructuring the public transport system in the capital.

During a meeting at the municipality's headquarters, also attended by Prime Minister Nader Dahabi and Royal Court Chief Bassem Awadallah, His Majesty reiterated that all districts of Amman should enjoy distinguished services.

The King also directed GAM to put its expertise in urban planning at the disposal of other municipalities across the Kingdom.

During the meeting, Amman Mayor Omar Maani briefed the King on GAM's public transport plans and projects in the capital, underlining their importance to ease traffic congestion in the city. He also outlined GAM's different development initiatives.

Maani said GAM is working to improve the quality of transportation services, seeking a radical solution to traffic jams.

Mayor Maani said public transport is a key component of urban planning and is taken into consideration when designing road networks and related services, among other aspects.
