His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday met with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Robert H. Serry and discussed with him the latest developments in the peace process and efforts to push it forward.

The King reiterated that peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis should continue regardless of developments in the political arena, particularly the transitional period Israel is undergoing, pending the formation of a new Israeli government and the upcoming presidential election in the US.

The UN can play an effective role in creating the proper atmosphere in coordination with concerned parties to help both sides achieve progress in the peace process, King Abdullah said, reiterating the need to improve the living conditions and economic situation of the Palestinian people along with the progress at the political level.

He also underlined the need to stop any measures that would undermine confidence-building efforts and hinder the progress of the peace process.

Serry commended the King's efforts to support the peace process and briefed him on UN efforts, through its role as a Quartet member, to support the peace process and promote security and stability in the Middle East.
