His Majesty King Abdullah on Friday strongly condemned cartoons which appeared in some newspapers, including the Jordanian weekly Shihan, misrepresenting and vilifying Prophet Mohammad (May peace and blessings be upon him).

King Abdullah said vilifying the Prophet is an act of corruption and mischief as well as a crime that cannot be justified under the pretext of freedom of expression.

In a statement issued by the Royal Court, the King said that he will not tolerate or accept insulting Islam or any other religion.

“We will never allow anyone to abuse Jordan's freedom of expression in order to vilify Prophet Mohammad or other prophets and religions,” he said.
