His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday urged women to actively contribute to efforts aimed at achieving reform and the modernisation process.
At a meeting, attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania and several women activists, King Abdullah said he seeks a more effective women's role in the decision-making process and in the national dialogue committee, tasked with drawing a roadmap for comprehensive reform.
Also during the meeting, which coincided with International Women's Day, the King called for a swift launch of a nationwide dialogue to arrive at a consensus on the laws governing political and civil action in the country, especially the elections and political parties laws, where women should have their say.
He also stressed the importance of forming strong, programme-driven political parties that address key issues related to economic development, education and health development, and anything that improves citizens' living standards.
The meeting was one in a dialogue series King Abdullah is holding with various groups and segments of Jordanian society to discuss national issues and public affairs.
Later in the day, women activists commended the King's efforts and keenness to advance reform in the country in order to enhance Jordan's capacity in the face of challenges.
