King sends letter to PSD director

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday commended the role of the Public Security Department (PSD) in protecting the peaceful rallies over the past weeks.

In a letter sent to PSD Director Major General Hussein Majali, King Abdullah praised the department's personnel for their professionalism in handling the public gatherings, whose organisers have voiced their demands clearly and peacefully, in line with Jordanian values.

The King called urged Jordanians to salute PSD personnel for their efforts, noting that weekend service has required many police officers to leave their families. He said also that the police have exercised self-restraint in the face of provocations intended to spark confrontations “between protesters and citizens”.

“Our free, peaceful and secure country respects all opinions, and the PSD has proved that its personnel deals with Jordanians with respect and within the boundaries of the law, with no discrimination between one citizen and another.”
