His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday stressed the importance of institutionalizing democracy and decentralization through broadening the base of public participation in the decision making process.

The ultimate goal, the King said, is to achieve sustainable development in all its dimensions.

The King's remarks were made at a meeting with the members of the recently-appointed Royal Committee tasked with implementing the Royal vision and delineating the Kingdom into development regions.

King Abdullah highlighted the need for the panel to set up the appropriate mechanism to bring the vision to fruition through facts on the ground based on feasible and clear standards.

He said that efforts should be continued to build a modern Jordan that provides its men and women with opportunities for a decent life and ensures that the gains of development are distributed equally among the people.

The 12-member committee was formed Monday by a Royal Decree.
