His Majesty King Abdullah Thursday expressed hope to replicate the success of Jordanian-Indian cooperation in the fertilizer sector in other fields.
During a meeting organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi, King Abdullah said that Jordan hopes to benefit from India's distinguished experience in transportation technology, telecommunications and alternative energy resources.
The king briefed Indian businessmen on Jordan's plans to open special investment zones in the Kingdom, stressing that the success of Aqaba Special Economic Zone was the prototype for zones elsewhere. King Abdullah urged Indian businessmen to explore the investment potential in these zones and increase their investments in the fertilizers domain, expressing Jordan's readiness to facilitate Indian investment.
India's Southern Petrochemicals Industries Company (SPIC) Chairman of Board of Directors announced that the company, which has activities at Al Shediyeh Mines, will double its production of phosphoric acid to reach US$180 million annually.
During his three-day visit to Indian, King Abdullah said that there was potential for Indo-Jordan relations to transcend the borders of Jordan and reach the entire region. During an interview with the Economic Times, King Abdullah said Jordan is keen to learn more about Indian educational facilities and seeks more cooperation in the IT sector.
He said the two countries will sign a total of four agreements and memorandums of understanding in various sectors. The King also noted that Indian companies could avail themselves of Jordan's free trade agreement with the US, as well as other trade agreements with Europe and Arab states, and said that he hoped that investment would not be limited to the textiles and garments sector.
