King, Saudi monarch discuss efforts to end Palestinian Israeli conflict

His Majesty King Abdullah and King Abdullah Ben Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday stressed the need to re-launch serious peace negotiations that proceed according to a specific time frame and a clear plan to address all aspects of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and establish an independent Palestinian state.

During a meeting in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, King Abdullah and the Saudi monarch discussed efforts to launch peace negotiations and end the conflict based on the two-state solution in accordance with international resolutions and relevant terms of reference, especially the Arab Peace Initiative.

The two leaders stressed that Israel should end all unilateral measures, especially the expansion of settlements and activities that threaten the identity of Jerusalem and its holy sites.

The two leaders also stressed the importance of prompt Palestinian reconciliation in order to restore Palestinian national unity and improve the Palestinian people's economic and living conditions.

King Abdullah, who returned home later in the day, briefed the Saudi monarch on his talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday, addressing ongoing efforts to relaunch Middle East peace talks.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's support for Saudi Arabia and its right to defend its borders and security, saying that its stability is crucial to the entire region.

Discussions also covered bilateral ties and means to boost joint Arab cooperation.

The King voiced appreciation for Saudi Arabia's support for several development projects in the Kingdom. He also congratulated the Saudi monarch over Saudi Crown Prince Sultan Ben Abdul Aziz's return from medical treatment abroad.

The meeting was attended by His Royal His Royal Highness Prince Feisal, Prime Minister Samir Rifai, Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi, King's Adviser Ayman Safadi, Director of the General Intelligence Department Lieutenant General Mohammad Raqqad, the Saudi crown prince and several members of the Saudi royal family.
