His Majesty King Abdullah and Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz condemned the ugly massacre committed by Israeli military forces in the Lebanese town of Qana, which resulted in the death and injury of dozens of civilians, the majority of them children.
At a meeting in Jeddah, the two leaders said the grievous crime was a flagrant breach of humanitarian principles and international law. Calling on the international community to exert utmost efforts to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the two leaders discussed means to maintain support for Lebanon.
They urged the international community to act responsibly to end Israeli aggression against Lebanon and said the international community must arrive at a comprehensive position to solve the Middle East crisis.
During a lunch banquet held in honor of King Abdullah and his accompanying delegation, the two leaders discussed means of alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. King Abdullah renewed Jordan's commitment to provide all forms of aid to the Lebanese people.
Jordan has led the humanitarian assistance campaign in the Arab world. The Royal Engineering Corps repaired Beirut Airport to begin receiving humanitarian aid through an air corridor, and Jordan has sent several relief and medical aid shipments to Lebanon in the past week. Jordan has also responded to a request from Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora that Jordan receive Arab and international aid for shipment to Lebanon.
During his meeting with the Saudi monarch, King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's readiness to place all its capabilities at the service of Lebanon and to contribute to the reconstruction process.
On the situation in the Palestinian lands, the two leaders pledged to provide every possible support to the Palestinian people and called on the international community to pressure Israel for an end to its continuous aggression on Palestinian lands.
King Abdullah said international efforts to bring back the Palestinians and Israelis to the negotiating table and revive the Middle East peace process should be intensified. He reiterated that only a comprehensive, just and lasting peace that establishes a Palestinian state can relieve the region of violence and instability.
The two monarchs also discussed the situation in Iraq, expressing their support for efforts to restore security and stability in Iraq. King Abdullah said Jordan will continue its cooperation with the Iraqi government to end the cycle of violence in the neighboring state.
The two leaders also affirmed the importance of enhancing bilateral ties, particularly in economic and investment fields, and affirmed the importance of joint Arab and Islamic action to face challenges to the region.
Upon his arrival in Saudi Arabia today, King Abdullah was received by King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister Prince Sultan Ben Abdel Aziz, Foreign Minister Prince Soud Al Faisal, Chief of the General Intelligence Prince Meqren Bin Abdel Aziz, and a number of princes, ministers and high-ranking Saudi officials.
King Abdullah is accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Ben Al Hussein, Director of His Majesty King Abdullah's Office Bassem Awadallah, Foreign Minister Abdul Ilah Al Khatib and Director of the General Intelligence Department Muhammad Al Dhahabi.
