King reviews regional developments with US delegation

Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania on Tuesday met with a delegation of US congressional staff, during which they reviewed developments in the Middle East and discussed bilateral ties.

During the meeting, King Abdullah referred to the challenges facing the region, chief among them the consequences if a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue is not reached.

In this regard, the King stressed that the international community, especially the US, should deal with conflicts in the region from a comprehensive perspective which takes into consideration the link between all regional conflicts, especially the Palestinian issue.

His Majesty said Jordan was also looking forward to continued support from the US and the international community to the approach of moderation in order to entrench stability and security in the region.

King Abdullah said among the challenges facing the region are the harsh economic situation and creating job opportunities for youths, who constitute a high percentage of the population.

The King also reviewed programmes the country is implementing in order to enhance quality of education and services offered to citizens, as well as efforts to sustain the middle-class segment.

Discussions also covered bilateral ties, especially in the economic field, with the King highlighting the importance of US assistance to Jordan, which helps it implement development programmes.
