His Majesty King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's solidarity with and support for Lebanon as it works to overcome the impact of recent hostilities and rebuild. During a meeting on Thursday with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, King Abdullah expressed his belief that Lebanon, through the unity and resilience of the Lebanese people, will transcend its challenges.
During the meeting, the King stressed Jordan's support for the government's efforts to extend its authority over the entire country, emphasizing that all parties should be committed to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to guarantee the establishment of security and stability on the Lebanon-Israel border.
''Aggression against Lebanon has proved the failure of unilateral solutions, so we need to realize a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region, based on finding a just settlement for the Palestinian issue and achieving Palestinian aspirations for the establishment of a viable independent state,'' the King said.
The King said Jordan will provide all forms of support to the Lebanese people and government to alleviate the impact of Israel's aggression, especially on Lebanon's infrastructure.
The King said that Jordan is keen to strengthen relations with Lebanon in all fields, supporting the Lebanese economy, contributing to rebuilding the country, and helping the Lebanese private sector to export products.
Siniora expressed thanks and appreciation for Jordan and King Abdullah's support for Lebanon and the kingdom's assistance to the Lebanese people during and after the war.
''We highly appreciate the honorable stances of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Jordan towards Lebanon at all levels,'' Siniora said, noting that Jordan was the first Arab country to break the blockade on Lebanon.
The Lebanese Prime Minister briefed the King on developments in Lebanon and efforts of the Lebanese government to rebuild the country.
Jordan was amongst the first countries to send medical and humanitarian assistance to Lebanon and establish field hospital in Beirut. A relief airlift was established between Amman and Beirut to facilitate the flow of assistance to Lebanon.
A lunch banquet was held for Prime Minister Sinior and was also attended by the Prime Minister Maarouf Bakhit, Director of King's office Bassem Awadallah, and Director of the General Intelligence Department.
