King rejects decentralisation draft law

Amman
18 October 2015

His Majesty King Abdullah, in line with the powers vested by Article (93) of the Constitution, has ordered the rejection of the 2015 Decentralisation Draft Law after it was passed by the parliament.

The reason to reject the bill was based on the fact that Chapter (a) of Article (6) of the draft legislation is incompatible with the interpretation issued by the Constitutional Court, which deemed it as unconstitutional and in contradiction with the provisions of Article (121) of the Constitution.
