His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received Chairman of the Yemeni Shura Council Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani, who invited his Majesty to visit Yemen and conveyed the greetings of Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
During the meeting, the King stressed his keenness on enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
Abdul Ghani, who is also president of the Association of Senates and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World, briefed the King on the association's meeting that opened at the Dead Sea on Sunday. Representatives from 14 countries participating in the gathering discussed challenges facing Third World countries and the role of education and democracy in realizing development as well as political and socio-economic stability.
King Abdullah underscored the importance of such meetings in coordinating efforts and positions of Arab and African states that seek to move to a new phase of joint action to realize sustainable development and address the challenges they face.
On bilateral ties, King Abdullah expressed hope that the meeting of the Joint Higher Jordanian-Yemeni Committee, scheduled for January, would further deepen the ties between Amman and Sanaa.
Also on Monday, King Abdullah met separately with Algerian Parliament Speaker Abdul Qader Ben Saleh, who conveyed greetings from Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
During the meeting, the King and Ben Saleh discussed means to enhance bilateral ties in various fields.
Talks also covered the situation in the Middle East and efforts to achieve regional stability and revive the peace process.
King Abdullah also stressed the need to bring about stability and security to enable countries in the region realize their aspirations.
Ben Saleh also took part in the consultative meeting, which concluded on Monday.
The participants sent a cable to the King, expressing their appreciation to Jordan for hosting the conference.
They commended the King's concern with ensuring the success of the event, where working papers discussed the challenges facing member countries in achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
