His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday said Jordan will continue to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Palestine, particularly in the Holy City of Jerusalem.
King Abdullah stressed the need to intensify efforts to end unilateral Israeli measures, which threaten the Islamic and Christian presence in Jerusalem.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Vatican, headed by Antonio Maria Vegliٍ, president of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerants, the King stressed his commitment to enhancing bilateral relations in various fields to serve the interests of both countries and to enhance Islamic-Christian dialogue.
Vegliٍ voiced appreciation for Jordan's efforts, under King Abdullah's guidance, to maintain communication between the Islamic and Christian faiths, and praised the Kingdom for its hospitality in hosting Iraqis since 2003.
Royal Court Chief Khaled Karaki, King's Media Adviser Amjad Adaileh and Vatican Ambassador to Jordan and Iraq Giorgio Lingua attended the meeting.
