King Receives US Deputy Secretary of State

His Majesty King Abdullah II held talks on Monday with the US Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage, who arrived in Amman on Monday within his regional tour to discuss developments in Iraq and Palestine.



The King and the US official outlined, during the meeting, efforts that aim at reviving the roadmap as well as the role of the US in supporting peace efforts. The King affirmed the importance of creating suitable atmosphere to resume the peace process, pointing that the Israel practices, the increase of violence in the Palestinian lands as well as the separation wall form an obstacle to resume negotiations. The meeting also covered mechanisms to promote bilateral relations, the US assistance to Jordan and the situation in Iraq, particularly after the transfer of power to the new Iraqi government.



The meeting was attended by Minister of the Royal Court, Samir Rifai and Labor Minister/ acting Foreign Minister, Amjad Majali.
