His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday discussed with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay UN efforts to safeguard human rights.
Discussions during the meeting also addressed Jordan's steps to realise its commitment to the protection of human rights in law and in practice.
King Abdullah underlined Jordan's commitment to support human rights at the national and international levels, confirming the country's keenness to benefit from the experience of international human rights organisations in order to develop the performance of local institutions working in the field.
The King said ensuring the highest level of respect and protection for human rights through the rule of law and achieving justice and equality is among Jordan's top priorities.
The King highlighted legislation, national strategies and programmes that seek to safeguard human rights, protect public freedoms, empower women and defend the rights of children.
