His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, who is visiting Jordan to participate in the meetings of the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, which kicked off on Saturday in Amman.

At the meeting King Abdullah renewed warning against the consequences of Israel's continued policy of settlement expansion and its unilateral measures to alter the identity of Jerusalem and threaten its holy sites.

The King said these Israeli measures undermine peace prospects and increase tension and instability in the Middle East.

During the meeting with Buzek, His Majesty stressed the need for an intensified European role in efforts to overcome obstacles to progress in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution and the relevant terms of reference, especially the Arab Peace Initiative.

King Abdullah said he highly valued the European Parliament's support to efforts seeking tangible progress in the peace process within a comprehensive regional context that ends the state of conflict and enables the peoples of the region to live in security and stability.

The King was also briefed on issues discussed during the sixth plenary session of the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, which focused mainly on efforts to realise Mideast peace.

His Majesty voiced hope that these meetings would result in greater support for efforts to attain comprehensive peace in the region, stressing Jordan's keenness to strengthen its ties with the European Parliament to enhance Euro-Mediterranean partnerships.

Discussions also covered Jordanian-European ties and means to develop them in different fields.
