His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday underlined that Jordan will continue its role in protecting Jerusalem and its holy sites.
During a meeting Tuesday with the secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, His Majesty underscored the role of the organisation in safeguarding the common interests of Muslim nations, enhancing solidarity among their people as well as promoting the true essence of Islam as a religion of tolerance and moderation.
Talks also focused on the latest developments in the Arab region and efforts being exerted to break the deadlock in the peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis to ultimately lead to the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the basis of the two-state solution.
For his part, Ihsanoglu acknowledged Jordan's historic role in defending Jerusalem and its holy sites, expressing appreciation for the King's efforts in boosting the unity of the Islamic world.
Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Director of His Majesty's Office Imad Fakhoury, and His Majesty’s Media Adviser Amjad Adaileh attended the meeting.
