His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday expressed his support for activating commercial relations among Muslim countries during a meeting with President of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Sheikh Saleh Kamel.

The King highlighted the need to eliminate obstacles hampering the expansion of trade ties and the promotion of joint investment ventures by Muslim countries.

King Abdullah said Jordan is capable of playing an effective role in this regard, in light of its geographic location, situated in the centre of the Muslim world.

Kamel said the ICCI has become more determined to fulfill its role, particularly after the Islamic conference held in Mecca last year.

The ICCI seeks to promote Islamic values in trade among Arab countries and raise awareness of positive Islamic economic practices, Kamel said.

He added that the ICCI also seeks to boost Muslim investment ventures and upgrade education curricula in order to meet the requirements of the labor market.

In addition, Kamel stressed the importance of establishing free zones in the Islamic world in order to achieve Islamic solidarity and strengthen economic and commercial relations among Muslim countries.

The ICCI is affiliated with the Organization of the Islamic Conference and represents the private sectors of its 57 member countries.
