King receives French FM, calls for immediate cease-fire in Lebanon

His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday stressed the importance of bringing about an immediate cease-fire and an end to the Israeli aggression in Lebanon as the only way to stop the suffering of the Lebanese people and pave the way for diplomatic and political efforts to contain the crisis.

During a meeting with French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy, His Majesty said that an immediate and comprehensive cease-fire will help defuse the crisis.

The two sides stressed the importance of supporting the Lebanese government and strengthening its capabilities to maintain the unity and sovereignty of Lebanon.

His Majesty also stressed the importance of channeling international humanitarian aid to Lebanon in these difficult circumstances, pointing out that Jordan has begun a campaign of urgent and comprehensive assistance to the Lebanese people.

For his part, the French Foreign Minister reviewed the efforts exerted by his country, to put an end to the crisis in the Lebanese territories.

Meanwhile, His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday expressed Jordan's readiness to receive and treat Lebanese people who were injured during the Israeli aggression on Lebanon.

During a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora, King Abdullah said the Kingdom puts its medical and health expertise at the service of the Lebanese people to alleviate as possible the humanitarian tragedy they face.

King Abdullah stressed that Jordan will work in coordination with Arab and international parties to bring about a cease-fire in Lebanon and to strengthen the capabilities of the Lebanese government to confront the current crisis.
