King receives European Commission president

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday received European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at Al Husseiniya Palace.
At the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, King Abdullah reaffirmed the deep-rooted partnership and friendship between Jordan and the European Union, expressing keenness on expanding cooperation across various fields.
His Majesty highlighted the importance of the 14th meeting of the Jordan-EU Association Council, held recently in Jordan as the first meeting to take place in an EU partner country from the southern region, expressing appreciation of the EU’s support for the Kingdom.
The meeting covered regional and international developments, especially the Palestinian cause, with the King calling for stepping up efforts to create a real horizon to move the peace process forward and break the stalemate, while ending the cycle of violence threatening regional stability and security.
In addition, the meeting addressed means of coordinating and integrating efforts to counter challenges related to food security, the environment, and climate change.
For her part, President von der Leyen commended the deep-rooted relations between Jordan and the EU, stressing the EU’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom.
The European Commission president also lauded Jordan’s pivotal role in the region and its efforts to reach political solutions to regional crises and bolster regional partnerships.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.
