His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday urged the international community to continue supporting Jordan in its efforts to provide services for Syrian refugees.

During a meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota, King Abdullah highlighted the need to enable the Kingdom, which is suffering from limited resources, to provide Syrian refugees, whose number has exceeded 200,000, with their basic needs, underlining Brazil’s potential role in this endeavour.

The King stressed his keenness to boost cooperation with Brazil in a manner that serves the interests of both countries, noting that his meeting with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff on the sidelines of the third South American-Arab Countries Summit in Peru earlier this month constituted an opportunity to discuss issues of mutual concern.

The King cited healthcare, agriculture, water administration, energy, tourism, trade and investment as promising fields of cooperation.

His Majesty and Patriota also reviewed developments in the Middle East, particularly the Syrian crisis.

The King stressed the need for a political solution to the crisis to end bloodshed in the country and maintain the unity of its people.

Talks also covered efforts to achieve peace in the region based on the two-state solution that leads to an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Brazilian official commended the King’s efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

The meeting was attended by His Majesty’s Office Director Imad Fakhoury, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and the Brazilian Minister’s accompanying delegation.
