His Majesty King Abdullah met with Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams in Amman on Sunday.

During their meeting, King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's support for Islamic and Christian holy sites in the Palestinian territories, particularly those in Jerusalem, and in Jordan.

King Abdullah urged greater international efforts to halt unilateral Israeli measures that threaten holy sites in Jerusalem and its Arab Christian and Muslim residents.

The King underscored the role Western churches can play in supporting peace efforts and protecting holy sites, and discussed Jordan's efforts to advance interfaith dialogue.

Williams expressed his appreciation for King Abdullah's decision to allocate a plot of land for the establishment of an Anglican church at the Baptism Site, commending his efforts to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East. He stressed the importance of the Amman Message in building bridges of understanding between followers of different religions and cultures.
