His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received a delegation from the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), which is currently holding a four-day conference at the Dead Sea.
Underlining the Kingdom's keenness to enhance cooperation between its medical institutions and the association, the King also highlighted the importance of the cooperation between the association and King Hussein Cancer and Biotechnology Institute.
King Abdullah also thanked the association for its efforts in training local medical staff and transferring its experience to the Kingdom's medical institutions.
His Majesty also referred to the AACR International Conference entitled, Advances in Cancer Research: From the Laboratory to the Clinic, which opened at the King Hussein Ben Talal Convention Centre on Sunday.
Around 400 oncologists and researchers from over 38 countries are participating in the conference, which is presenting the latest discoveries in tumour biology, novel therapeutics, the genetic basis of cancer, cancer epidemiology and prevention, and immunology, according to the AACR website.
Minister of Health Salah Mawajdeh, who inaugurated the event deputizing for King Abdullah, said the Kingdom seeks to develop its abilities in cancer treatment by cooperating with international organizations in order to limit the disease in the country and alleviate the suffering of cancer patients.
