King reaffirms need for equitable distribution of COVID vaccines

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday met with Pfizer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla.
The meeting—held on the sidelines of King Abdullah’s visit to Washington, DC, and attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II—covered international efforts to secure COVID-19 vaccines, with His Majesty calling for the efficient and equitable distribution of vaccines, to support international efforts to counter the pandemic.
The King underlined Jordan’s efforts in securing vaccines for citizens, residents, and refugees, as Jordan was among the first countries in the world to start vaccinating refugees for free.
His Majesty also commended Pfizer’s cooperation in securing vaccines for refugees, highlighting Jordan’s plan to increase the number of vaccinated individuals, with the goal of mitigating the implications of the pandemic and moving forward with plans to reopen schools and universities in September.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Ambassador in Washington, DC, Dina Kawar attended the meeting.
