King, Queen return home from US visit

Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania returned to Jordan on Sunday following a several-day working visit to the US.

In the US, King Abdullah met with US President Barack Obama last Tuesday and with several US administration officials and congressmen throughout the week.

Discussions covered means to strengthen ties and efforts to bring about peace in the region.

A summit held with Obama during the visit focused on means to bring about a comprehensive peace in the Middle East and to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.

Talks also covered means to bolster bilateral cooperation in different fields and highlighted the strategic relations between Jordan and the US as the two countries mark the 60th anniversary of the start of diplomatic ties between them this year.

During the visit, King Abdullah met with several Arab, Islamic and Jewish American leaders to discuss role these groups can play in helping realise Middle East peace.

The King, who Thursday launched the Friends of Jordan Caucus at the US Senate, also delivered a speech at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies Friday. He urged the US to lead Middle East peace efforts to ensure that no more time is wasted.
