Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania Al-Abdullah on Saturday left for New York on a working visit to the United States during which the King will participate in the 61st session of the UN General Assembly, which started on Sep.12.
King Abdullah will address the UN General Assembly. During his speech, he is expected to highlight the importance of the international community's role in creating a genuine world partnership to achieve peace and security in the Middle East.
The King will also meet a number of world leaders to exchange views on regional and international developments and on ways to enhance Jordan's relations with their countries, and in the presence of Queen Rania will deliver the keynote address to the first meeting of the Arab American Action Forum, which is organized by the Young Arab Leaders and is expected to draw 200 participants. King Abdullah will discuss the importance of partnership and contact between Arab business leaders and their western counterparts. Former US President Bill Clinton and President and founder of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab are also expected to take part in the event.
At the invitation of King Abdullah, heads of state of the 11 low-middle income countries group (G-11) will meet in New York on September 20 to rally support for the economies of these countries. The G-11 comprises Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Ecuador, Georgia, Indonesia, Paraguay, Sri Lanka, Honduras and addition to Pakistan and Croatia. The King will deliver a speech in which he is expected to underline the necessity of fostering partnerships between the G-11 and the developed countries, especially G-8 countries, to enhance economic reform, development and stability of 9 low and middle- income countries in addition to Croatia and Pakistan and increase foreign investments to face common challenges.
King Abdullah is also scheduled to attend the Clinton Global Initiative, being held for the second consecutive year. The King will address the CGI with a speech addressing the importance of developing a global framework for development and partnership and the need to enhance understanding and mutual respect and contribution to conflict resolution.
During the week-long visit, King Abdullah is also expected to meet a number of US and world economic leaders to exchange views on the role of the private sector in supporting international development and creating job opportunities as well as development and reform plans in Jordan. He is also expected to meet with media figures and discuss with them developments in the Middle East and the King's vision to achieve peace and stability in the region.
His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein was sworn in as Regent during the King's absence.
