Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania on Tuesday inaugurated the new premises of the co-ed kindergarten and primary school at the Islamic Scientific College in Jabal Amman.
Their Majesties toured the facility, where some 800 students are enrolled, and were briefed on teaching methods and extracurricular activities that seek to develop the skills of students and explore their talents.
The six-storey building, constructed on a 3-dunum plot of land near the headquarters of the college, houses 46 classrooms, in addition to facilities for arts, music and sports, as well as a swimming pool and library.
Under an American programme, Arabic language, Islamic education and Chinese classes are held at the kindergarten and the primary school, in addition to a special curriculum prepared by the school, which received ISO certification, is taught at the kindergarten, as well as the public school syllabus.
Established in 1946, the Islamic Scientific College is one of the oldest academic institutions in the Kingdom that started classes in 1947 in the Jabal Amman area.
The college, which was inaugurated under the umbrella of the Islamic Culture Society, currently has two branches in Jabal Amman and Jubeiha.
King Abdullah studied at the kindergarten in 1967, while His Majesty the late King Hussein was among the first batch of students at the college in 1947.
King Abdullah and Queen Rania also toured the classrooms, where students recited poetry.
Their Majesties were also briefed on the society and its plans to develop the educational process and enhance the skills of students.
The King, who was accompanied by Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi and the King's Adviser Ayman Safadi, also received a souvenir from the president of the society, Omar Bedair.
