Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania on Saturday left for the US, where King Abdullah will head the Jordanian delegation to the 65th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, which started last week.

During the visit, King Abdullah will also attend a UN summit on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in New York from September 20-22 under the title "We Can End Poverty".

The summit will review progress towards the achievement of the MDGs and offer a plan to accelerate progress.

The UN Millennium Summit of 2000 set eight MDGs, which all 192 UN member states and numerous international organisations agreed to achieve by the year 2015.

While in New York, the King will deliver a speech at each of the two events and is expected to meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and several presidents of participating countries and delegations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

These meetings will focus on bilateral relations and regional developments as well as issues of mutual concern.
