His Majesty King Abdullah and Queen Rania on Saturday night attended the graduation of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

The private visit to the US followed a state visit to Belgium, where King Abdullah held talks with senior officials and toured main towns and projects in the European country.

Crown Prince Hussein obtained his degree in international history at Georgetown University, where His Majesty pursued his advanced studies.

Born on 28 June 1994, the Crown Prince is the eldest son of King Abdullah and Queen Rania. He has one brother, HRH Prince Hashem, and two sisters: Their Royal Highnesses Princess Iman and Princess Salma.

A Royal Decree was issued on 2 July 2009 naming His Royal Highness as Crown Prince.

The Crown Prince, who holds the rank of second lieutenant in the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, finished his secondary education at King’s Academy in 2012.

His Royal Highness has acted as Regent several times during the King’s absence. He has also accompanied His Majesty on several visits and tours of various governorates, along with official and military missions and functions at home and abroad. The Crown Prince has launched several initiatives aimed at stimulating young people and instilling the spirit of volunteerism in them.

He launched the “Haqeq” (Achieve) initiative, which involves hundreds of school students from all governorates in activities that promote a sense of volunteerism, democracy, teamwork and patriotism.

He also launched the “Qusai Initiative”, seeking to improve the performance of sports therapy staff, a month after a Faisali team player, after whom the programme was named, died during a football match.

The Crown Prince has also adopted a Royal Hashemite Court initiative to treat Jordanians with hearing difficulties and in need of cochlear implants, issuing directives that the proceeds of the 9th Allgau Orient Rally, which concluded in Jordan in May, go to the benefit of these children.

The Crown Prince is interested in reading and sports.
